A new survey has determined that more than 20,000 people are working in buildings developed by Mericle Commercial Real Estate Services in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
Mericle recently surveyed its tenants and clients to obtain their employment totals.
“More than 200 companies, including 40 Fortune 100 firms, occupy the 28 million square feet we’ve developed,” said Mericle Vice President of Marketing Jim Cummings. We are very proud of the positive impact we have had on the local economy.”
Mericle has developed its buildings, most of them on speculation, in 16 Northeastern Pennsylvania business parks. The company specializes in the development of bulk industrial, flex, and office space and has constructed between 1 million and 1.5 million square feet annually in recent years.
Mericle is a vertically integrated company with more than 350 employees. Among Mericle’s in-house professional team are engineers, architects, electricians, carpenters, plumbers, attorneys, accountants and more.
Cummings said the 20,000 employees earn an estimated $1 billion in annual salary. He also said the employment number does not include the thousands of indirect and induced jobs that exist in the region due Mericle’s developments.
Robert K. Mericle is the president of Mericle Commercial Real Estate Services. He founded the company in Wilkes-Barre in 1985.
“We thank NEPA’s economic development organizations, local, state and federal governments and elected officials, utility companies, and real estate brokerage community for their considerable help over the last 38 years,” Mericle said.
In 2022, Mericle broke ground on a four-building business park – CenterPoint Commerce & Trade Park South – in Jenkins Township, Luzerne County. Mericle has also announced plans to develop CrossRoads East Business Park in Hazle Township, Luzerne County where more than 13 million square feet is planned.
