The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program (Toys for Tots) is a nationwide program that collects and distributes toys to less fortunate children during the holiday season. In Northeastern Pennsylvania, Toys for Tots distributes more than 35,000 toys, games, stocking stuffers, and books annually.
In 1998, Robert Mericle donated warehouse space so the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve could store the toys collected for that holiday season. Mr. Mericle has donated space to Toys for Tots every year since 1998 including 14,000 square feet of rentfree, year-round space since 2011. He also covers all operating expenses for this donated space.
The donated warehouse space gives the program the logistics needed to provide holiday gifts to approximately 25,000 local children annually.
For several years, many of Mericle’s tenants have joined with Mericle’s employees and together they have donated thousands of toys to the program. In 2014, 56 Mericle tenants donated toys and books.
